Conrad Cartagena: Unexpected Luxury

The Conrad Cartagena is a brand new hotel. It is located about 15 minutes outside of the walled city (the only real con). Candidly, this was my first time to Cartagena and I didn’t find the hotel’s location that bad. That being said, if you want to be in the mix of the walled city all day, walking around, and exploring, this may not be the hotel for you. We did a lot of exploring but had to rely on taxis – more on that here.

The other aspects made up for the location, in my opinion. Most importantly, the hotel is beachfront which is ALWAYS a pro. The hotel grounds, generally, are lovely. The hotel has five large pools outside of the lobby, which I can’t imagine would ever be too crowded given the size. There is a full golf course. And there is another pool which is located at the “beach club”- the area of the hotel that is on the ocean. Also, the beauty of a hotel that is only a year old? It’s still somewhat quiet – we had easy access to a room upgrade, received lots of special attention and had the pools to ourselves most of the stay. Our room upgrade was amazing! We stayed in an ocean view suite that had two rooms, balconies and bathrooms. It was luxurious to say the least.

The service at the Conrad was wonderful. The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel offers room service 24/7 (this is important because there are no restaurants within walking distance). The bartenders took great effort to make delicious cocktails. Overall, the stay was wonderful and I would definitely go back.

Right now, the hotel is offering great rates – especially if you’re a Hilton Honors member. Our three night stay was under $600 and that included cabs and drinks. With that kind of value, I’d say run don’t walk to this relaxing beachfront resort!
